Technical Paraplanner

A financial planning firm that takes technical thinking as seriously as client relationships

We're recruiting on behalf of a financial planning firm that's built its reputation on doing advice properly — no templated recommendations, no product-led sales, no cutting corners to hit a deadline. Every plan starts from the client's actual life and circumstances, and that only works because of the paraplanning behind it. That's where you'd come in.

About the role

This is a background role, not a client-facing one — and it's designed to stay that way. You won't be pulled into meetings or expected to become an adviser down the line; this is a genuine, long-term technical specialism for someone who gets real satisfaction from getting the detail right.

You'll take the lead on building the advice framework behind each financial plan: digging into fact finds, cashflows and meeting notes, stress-testing the options, and making sure everything that goes out the door is technically sound, compliant, and properly tailored to the client. You'll work closely with the firm's Client Facing Paraplanners, Financial Planners and Client Partners — but the responsibility for the rigour behind the advice sits with you.

Day to day, you'll be:

  • Interpreting fact finds, cashflows and meeting notes to identify planning opportunities and shape the advice framework
  • Carrying out technical analysis across pensions, tax planning, protection and investments
  • Leading on suitability reports — initial, ongoing and ad hoc
  • Project managing implementation cases through to sign-off, working with the wider advice and admin team
  • Preparing technical summaries, recommendation matrices and investment comparisons
  • Using cashflow modelling software and risk profiling tools
  • Keeping on top of regulatory, tax and product changes that affect the advice given

You'll enjoy this role if you:

  • Take real pride in precision and like solving complex, detailed problems
  • Prefer deep, focused work to a constant stream of interruptions
  • See a suitability report as a chance to genuinely improve someone's outcome, not just a compliance exercise
  • Like working closely with financial planners but have no interest in becoming one yourself
  • Are naturally the type to chase down anything that doesn't quite add up
  • Want thinking time to be valued as highly as client-facing time

What you'll need:

  • Level 4 Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning, working towards Chartered or CFP
  • A proven track record in technical paraplanning
  • Confidence to challenge an adviser's recommendation if something doesn't stack up

A bit about the firm

This is a firm that genuinely believes good advice takes time and thought, and it structures the role around that belief rather than around volume or targets. You'd be joining a close, collaborative team where paraplanners are treated as the technical backbone of the advice process, not support staff — and where getting it right the first time matters more than getting it out the door quickly.

This is a long-term technical specialist position rather than a route into advising, but you'd stay close to real advice decisions every day and play a genuine part in the outcomes clients get.
